El Paseo Community Garden is excited to have been chosen as a grant recipient for the Chicago Region Trees Initiative! We are looking to build our local cohort of Tree Ambassadors to train, scout out tree planting locations, and educate community members on how they too can support the health of local tree canopy where it is needed most. More hands mean less work!
No prior knowledge of tree keeping is necessary, bring your enthusiasm and commitment to making our city a more environmentally friendly place to live for ALL residents!
Priority for residents in 60608, 60609, 60616, 60623, 60632.
Our Goals/Commitments (more event/commitment details in the application below):
- The Tree Ambassador cohort is responsible for collectively submitting 50 tree planting requests to 311 each year over the two-year grant period (100 trees in total).
- Tree Ambassadors will receive training and work in teams in order to locate ideal planting locations and obtain community consent to submit a 311 request
What we want Tree Ambassadors to leave with:
- Connection to community, having a direct hand in increasing the tree canopy in our city!
- Knowledge of how communities and the city work can together to improve air quality, offset heat island effects, and support wildlife.
- Training around tree care, planting, and tracking.
- $75 honorarium/year with a minimum commitment of one event per month May-October.
